The History of NLP
What is NLP

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. I agree a mouth full although an accurate description of what NLP is.

Broken down into it's 3 elements it stands for:

Neuro:-   Refers to your neurological system. We use this to make sense of the world around us. We do this by filtering and processing at both conscious and unconscious levels translating sensory information into thought processes which in turn affect physiology, emotions and behavior's.

Linguistics:-   Relates to how as humans beings we use language to communicate, capture and translate our experiences to ourselves and others. The language we use has direct influence on how we remember and recall experiences and memory's.

Programming:-   This is how we mentally code, apply learning theory's and generally organise how we retain information. Everything from stratergies, decision making, problem solving and evaluations all have codes which NLP can change using techniques to recode how the mind perceives these experiences, memory's and learnings to better forms.

Or think of it this way:

Your brain acts in the same way as a computer, processing information every second, all day, 365 a year. Everytime you do something on auto pilot it sparks a software program to fire up and run. Everytime you learn something new you are writing a new software program to be able to do it again and again, time after time.

What happens if that software gets corrupted? a virus so to speak or a line is rewritten due to a traumatic event, phobia or fear. Maybe a belief change has altered that state of mind or software package. That will disrupt how you wish to perform daily activity's, plague your mind and thus restrict your pastimes, avenues you may take in life or things that you do.

NLP is an IT whiz who comes in, sources the bug or rewritten file and simply reverses it's affect by overwriting it or deleting it totally (only if not useful).

NLP has the interventions that can help most instances controlled by the mind whether it be eating disorders through to smoking habits, fears, phobias or dealing with the memory's of traumatic occurrences.

NLP also has great results in positives, working towards a goal, reframing information to understand, reading peoples body language, understanding communication styles, presentation skills, modelling your peer and many more in the world of business and sports.
